How to Register for and Enjoy a Course
All you need to know to enroll in, prepare for, and enjoy Biocitizen courses.
1) Use this site to learn about Biocitizen courses: the course of study, dates and enrollment costs. If you need more information, please respond to the course posts, email info@biocitizen.org, or call 413-650-3915.
2) When you are ready, use Paypal to pay for the course. After you have checked out, Biocitizen will send you confirmation.
3) You will receive a detailed syllabus, reading materials (and perhaps a list of books to purchase), a “to do” checklist, and instructions on how to join your class discussion group. You will also be asked to review and sign an insurance waiver. Like all schools, Biocitizen does not provide accident or medical insurance coverage for its students; you, or your minor, must have coverage to enroll.
4) Your participation in your class discussion group allows you to absorb key facts and ideas, share insights and questions, and “break the ice” before we meet in person. Biocitizen classes are intensives—short, energized, hands-on—and your participation is an essential part of the course work. Be assured: your mind will be very stimulated during this preparatory stage.
5) On days when your course is running, you will arrive at the Brushworks Arts and Industry Building in Florence, and either participate in a class or be transported to the site where our peripatetic activities take place. You provide their own gear, supplies and nourishment. Some days we’ll be able to stop for refreshments, and other times you’ll need to pack food; you’ll be notified ahead of time so you may plan for it.
6) The course will conclude with a final online class discussion, and with the voluntary completion of a course evaluation form. In writing-intensive courses, such as Our Place and Darwin in Cape Horn, the instructor will receive, review and comment upon a portfolio of writings that you have assembled and submitted. After the class is over, you are invited to continue discussions by responding to posts in the Biocitizen Blog.

My wife and I would love to take a course up there one weekend, is there somewhere on your site which details places we could stay in the area?
Hi Robert,
We don’t have a lodging page, but it sounds like a good idea.
Let me recommend you stay in Northampton, where you’re sure to find great food and shopping, and have lots of fun. Whatever course you take, part of our itinerary will bring you there, and you’ll learn things that will enrich your own explorations of it.
Here’s the website for a B&B I have heard is excellent. It’s right next to the bike path that takes you in and out of town, and you might find that a plus. It’s about ten minutes away from our school:

Hope that helps!
